About us
Who we are...
The Army Cadet Force is a voluntary youth organisation sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. It has been successfully helping young people in their development for 150 years.
The Army Cadet Force, or ACF for short, is one of the country's leading youth organisations.
At present some 50,000 boys and girls aged between 12 - 18 years are members of the organisation, with up to 1000 members in Somerset ACF alone.
We also have 8000 Adult volunteers who help run this huge organisation with 1700 cadet centres spread across the UK
The aim of the Army Cadet Force, as described in the ACF Charter, is to inspire young people to achieve success in Life with a spirit of service to the Queen, their country and their local community. It is also important to develop in them the qualities of a good citizen.
The aim of Army Cadet Force training is to produce a self-reliant fit young person with an understanding of basic military subjects, initiated in the art of leadership, aware of his or her responsibilities as a citizen and with a well developed interest in the army and the community.
