Brigade SAAM 2012

As in previous years, Chickerell Camp near Weymouth in Dorset was the venue for the 43 Wessex Brigade Skill at Arms Meeting held on Saturday 27 May 2012 and Sunday 28 May 2012 in glorious sunshine. Strongly supported with seven counties competing, our Battalion fielded three teams for the event as well as providing a number of Range Support Staff.

Somerset Cadet Battalion (The Rifles), Army Cadet Force Shooting Teams were:

Somerset A:

In a hard fought competition over the two days, Somerset A were rewarded with some team and individual successes:

Bruford Cup (Team 300 yards) - 2nd Somerset A
South West Army Cadet Force Cup - 3rd Somerset A
Individual (500 yards) - 3rd Cadet Corporal Nathan Boyle
19 Cadet Training Team 'Dirty Dozen' - 4th Cadet Corporal Laura Scull
(Top twelve marksmen) - 7th Cadet Corporal Nathan Boyle

The cadets were under the command of the Battalion Shooting Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Andy Smith, and the team coaches were Lieutenant Davinia Upshall, Lieutenant Will Drewe, Colour Serjeant Adam Booker, Colour Serjeant Colin Mackenzie and Potential Instructor Danielle Taylor.

Normandy Company Serjeant Major Pete Burge along with Serjeant Majors Elaine Hunt and Dave Murray kept a close watch on the scores and published the total statistics.

Our Commandant, Colonel Paul Richardson, was on hand to watch the end of competition award ceremony and to congratulate all members of the Shooting Team. The Commandant of Gloucestershire Army Cadet Force, Colonel Lance Ranson TD, presented the winning cadets with their medals and trophies.
